First time back on it this morning. Isla did great. Well I would say that.
Four blind runaways. The first was a short distance round corners but not the most obvious hiding spot. She initially didn’t want to go far enough but soon tracked him down. The second was similar but this time she remembered the game as and was a little keener to cheat and know where he’d gone. For the third, Steve carried on uphill along the track then dropped into a little bowl that was at least 5m deep so would have been a little more difficult with scent. This proved the case for Isla as she definitely didn’t know where Steve hid and was searching different spots nearby until suddenly she made a beeline for him. And the last was a little bit further away, not about the distance but to try and stop her knowing where he was. It tricked her a little, at first she bolted off after him but then had to search for him. She pretty much went round him and had use her nose. Ideal. And even better, this time she was coming back to me for her reward. Today was the first time using a liver paste reward and she loved it. Hopefully soon I’ll learn how to get her to actually search the sides that she bolted past.
Thanks Steve, still surprisingly warm this morning. Must be beer time.

In 2021 I got a puppy and in May 2022 I decided I'd like to train her to search for missing people. I'm fortunate enough to have wonderful support in Isla's training.
